Your website might have hundreds of SEO errors quietly holding it back from showing up in search results. So what should you do about it?

A great website needs to be polished both inside and out. SEO is a critical part of that — but a lot of people overlook it entirely.

Here’s what I recommend doing within the first two weeks of launching your website:

  1. Add your website to Ahrefs so you can identify any SEO issues
  2. Assign target keywords to all categories from the start
  3. Set up a Google Business Profile (Local listing) and add content
  4. Submit your sitemap to Google and Bing
  5. Make sure all images have proper titles and aren’t too large in file size
  6. Install the Yoast SEO plugin (if you’re on WordPress) and add meta titles and descriptions to every page
  7. Fix 404 errors across your website
